Creating Catalog Snapshots

In this tutorial you will learn how to take high resolution snapshots which can be used to create product images, product previews, social media content, and so on. Later on, you can edit the taken snapshots and utilize them as thumbnails for your products.

You’ll be glad to know you can take High Resolution Snapshots, with or without a background, on IMVU Studio either using the Snapshot Tool or the Test Trigger Actions Feature.

Let’s dive in to know more about it!

Take high resolution snapshots using the Snapshot Tool

The IMVU Studio Snapshot Tool allows you to take high-quality images with or without a background.

  • STEP 1.  Go ahead and click on the Snapshot Tool  .

  • STEP 2.  If you want to get a snapshot of the full scene, click on Snapshot (hiressnap).

Otherwise, if you want to get a snapshot without a background, click on Snapshot no background (hiresnobg).

After clicking either option, a message pops up showing you where the image has been saved.

Below, there are two examples of two high resolution snapshots taken with and without a background.

Image Scaling

When taking a snapshot, the size of the image depends on the aspect ratio of your window, or more specifically, the aspect ratio of the 3D scene area of your window.

The shortest edge will always be 2048 pixels long, and the longest edge will scale in relation to the aspect ratio of the window.

Take high resolution snapshots using the Test Trigger Actions Feature

Besides testing different actions on your product, the IMVU Studio Test Trigger Actions Feature also lets you take high-quality images with or without a background.

  • STEP 1. Go to the Test Trigger Actions Feature, type the trigger word *hiressnap to get a snapshot of the full scene, and click on TEST.

Otherwise, type the trigger word *hiresnobg to get a snapshot without a background and click on TEST.

A message pops up showing you where the image has been saved.

Now you have your snapshots, you can edit them to fit your needs.

For example, you can make them meet the requirements to be used as product images. Learn more about it below!

Things to consider when creating a Product Image for your product

As an IMVU Creator you know how important it is to promote outstanding images of your products.

A product image is the first thing about your product that a customer sees, it does give shoppers a chance to preview your creation before clicking to find out more.

A product image should represent the product you are trying to sell.

Using a good image that clearly highlights the product in context, can make your product more appealing to consumers. For example, the following images meet the guidelines and they make the product attractive.

Choose an image that makes clear what you are selling (glasses vs. hair in this case) and catches the eye of the customer by not having competing elements around it. On the other hand, the following two images illustrate a poor product image because it’s less clear exactly what the actual product is.

Another thing you may want to include in your product image is your own logo, name, or a visual element that ties all of your products together.

Below you will find the Product Image Guidelines that you need to follow to create your product image for the IMVU Classic Website Shop:

  • The dimensions of your image must be 100 x 80 pixels.
  • The supported file types are: GIF, JPG, or PNG.
  • The file size of the image must be 50KB or less.
  • The file name of the image must be 50 characters or less.

Product images you create are only displayed on the IMVU Classic Website Shop and in the Product Preview Window of the IMVU Next Shop.

  • IMVU Classic Website Shop

  • IMVU Next Shop

The product images you see while browsing the IMVU Next Shop are predefined and selectable in the IMVU Studio Choose Thumbnail Tool when you click on CHOOSE PHOTO for the IMVU Next Shop Image in the INFO Panel in IMVU Studio.

Upload your Product Image using the INFO Panel

Once you are done creating your product and you are happy with the results, you are ready to submit it to the Shop. To do so, you need to edit your product information by filling out the details under the INFO Panel, located on the right hand side in IMVU Studio.

Keep in mind that it is mandatory to upload a product image in order to submit your product to the Shop.

Click on CHOOSE PHOTO, browse the folder where you saved your product image, and select it.

Note that when selecting an image for the Classic Shop using the IMVU Studio Choose Thumbnail Tool, the image will be automatically resized to the dimensions of  100 x 80 pixels.

To learn more about the fields under the INFO Panel and how to upload a product to the Shop, please read the article “Uploading Your Project”.

After filling out your product information, you will be ready to submit your product to the Shop. Once your product is submitted, you can publish it in the IMVU Catalog.
