FBX is essentially an exchange format that can be used to transfer assets from one application to another. Although developed originally by Discreet, the makers of 3D Studio Max, the FBX format is much more broadly supported. For IMVU Creators FBX offers a number of distinct advantages over CAL3D; it’s in active development; it’s an ‘archive’ style format in that assets are packaged for delivery; and for IMVU Creators, it’s far more convenient than having to process several assets separately.
