Questions & Answers

(Verbal answers are recorded in the video)

Q: Will IMVU Studio be easier to use than Classic (Client)?
A: We are making all of the features of the Classic (Client) available in Studio and with an improved UI.

Q: Will multiple windows be back soon or ever?
A: I think you’ll be happy with the new features we will be showing towards the end of the webinar. 😉

Q: Will a tutorial be shown on how to make clothes?
A: We are working on updating all of our tutorials on the Creator Education Center including the basics of making clothes. You can find our current tutorials here (see Tutorials section)

Q: Can u recreate ur previous products using IMVU Studio?
A: Yes. You can edit any of your published products and also import chkn files from previous projects

Q: Can we put a pid (product id) in the “Search Derivable Product” field or do we have to search by item name only?
A: When deriving you can search by both PID and product name. You can click PID to paste a PID specifically in the derivable shop search bar. 🙂

Q: Will there be a session where we learn how to edit?
Editing will be covered in later sessions. You can also find tutorials on how to edit here (see Tutorials section)

Q: How do we use IMVU Studio to make avatars?
A: That would be a great topic for a later session, but a bit much for what we have planned to cover today.

Q: Will there be IMVU Studio videos on learning how to be a better developer without having to go to YouTube?
A: Yes! That is actually a big part of what I am working on currently. It is a very big task and it will take a while to get to everything but we are going to provide new video and written tutorials

Q: Can you import fbx meshes?
A: Yes, FBX is fully supported.

Q: As far as meshes are concerned, we will be using solely fbx files? or will be able to use the old exporters?
A: Yes, IMVU Studio still supports the old Cal3d file formats if you still use them (xmf, xaf, etc…)

Q: This subject of the mesh also interests me. I have added fbx for testing, the others have not yet
A: Glad to hear your interested!

Q: How do you make the clothing fit all sizes?
A: This is BIG topic. I think this would be a great topic for another learning session.

Q: Is importing an fbx the same as importing an xmf? Because I know that in the old create tool it’s done totally differently
A: These import are different. Studio does support importing Cal3d files, but we recommend using FBX

Q: I was doing everything (in Classic (Client)), when I was with the VIP, I loved it, but the error (bugs) in the other version (IMVU Studio)…
A: We are focusing on stabilizing and hardening Studio.

Q: Will using the alpha test slider, show on IMVU Classic? When will that session happen?
A: Nope. The ‘Threshold’ slider is a Studio only feature.

Q: The basic room that our avi goes into in create is too bright as I have eye sensitivity to light. Can we change the background color in the room to black?
A: Yes, just as you can change your outfit in your inventory panel, you can also load any room as your background.

Q: Would the new normal and shine map ever be seen on the original IMVU Classic (Client)?
A: Nope. These are features that are only available in the new rendering engine. The IMVU Classic (Client) rendering engine was not designed to support advanced rendering methods

Q: How do we get to this create mode from the IMVU Classic (Client)?
A: Studio is a standalone app that is downloadable from here: https://https://create.imvu.com/article-topics/getting-started/

Q: When you add particles to an item, are you changing the mesh for the item you’re deriving?
A: No. Particles are an added component to the product

Q: What are the backward compatibility issues? Can old particle products work in the new desktop
A: Old particle products will work in the new desktop

Q: Will the new Next Desktop support the old products not made in IMVU Studio?
A: Yes.

Q: Are these tutorials available on a YouTube page?
A: Right now tutorials are on our Creator Education Center page and videos are on our YouTube channel

Q: I understand that we can’t use blending with shine map together?
A: Yes. You can use blending and shine together.

Q: Can we add an actor in the IMVU Studio when we need it for shooting pics for poses?
A: It is not currently available. This is a feature we are planning to add.

Q: Will the actors still be available in creating mode? And if yes, how will we add them?
A: Yes! Additional actors for testing is on our roadmap and you should see that in a later release.

Q: Is there any plan to make mesh directly on IMVU Studio?
A: Nope. There are a lot of great apps out there that do this really well!
