In this tutorial, Creator In Residence @jazzKat shows you how to take your Marvelous Designer .fbx file, exported from Blender, and import it into IMVU Studio how to take your Marvelous Designer .fbx file, exported from Blender, and import it into IMVU Studio.
Here is more information from jazzKat:
Once we’ve got our Marvelous Designer mesh imported and prepped in Blender and then X42 and .fbx we can bring that into IMVU Studio. And for that we just need to create a new project.
So click Create and select our base derivable. In this case, Women>Clothing>Tops. Select the empty female derivable top and then click the derive button. This will load the default Avatar and then all we do is import .fbx.
Browse to, and then select the .fbx file we’ve exported from Blender. Click open, and this starts the import process. This is giving us a preview of what’s in the file. Now set up .fbx.
We’ve included the torso with this one, so change that ID to “2 – chests and arms” to replace the defaults. And the Tutorial Tee, that’s the t-shirt mesh; we can use the default selection. Everything else is okay.
Next, it’s brought in our materials. The skin is okay. Click Next.
Now, animation. Click review. This is what’s going to be brought in.
Then click import.
There is our clothing item brought into IMVU Studio. Materials and textures auto assembled.
Now if the clothing was designed to fit a custom avatar or body shape we may need to go back and forth a couple of times between Blender and IMVU Studio to fix errors where we have clipping or aggressive deformation of the mesh.
But that is the basic process of getting our object, our mesh, into IMVU Studio.
