Why Products look different in IMVU Classic vs. IMVU Studio

You may be wondering why your products look different in IMVU Studio verses IMVU Classic.

The main reason for this difference is that each tool uses a different renderer, or engine that takes raw information from a 3D scene (polygons, materials, and lighting) and calculates the final result in images.

The new renderer used in IMVU Studio has new features such as shininess and normal maps which will allow for better looking products.

For instance, the gloss on this product moves dynamically when viewed in IMVU Studio and IMVU Desktop. Shininess and normal maps have been used. See how it looks in the video clip below.

The same product in IMVU Classic looks flat, as you can see in the video clip below.

There are also more new rendering features which are being planned for release soon that could not be achieved using the old renderer.

Because the renders are different, products will not look the same and adjustments will need to be made to achieve the same look in Studio that you would get in Classic.

For example, the Classic render ambient light value falls off to black much slower than the Studio renderer allowing for a wider range of value in a darker scene which means that the ambient light in Studio will need to be adjusted a bit to get a softer lit scene.
